I Thank My God

Greetings in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

As Paul begins his letter to the church at Philippi he writes, “I thank my God every time I mention you in my prayers. I’m thankful for all of you every time I pray, and it’s always a prayer full of joy. I’m glad because of the way you have been my partners in the ministry of the gospel from the time you first believed it until now.” (Philippians 1:3-5)

This scripture came to mind today as I was praying over the staff, leadership, servant volunteers, and membership of Stonebridge UMC. I was overcome with joy to be the pastor of Stonebridge UMC. God showed me the deep faith of this congregation and your willingness to do whatever it takes to advance the cause of Christ. I am not just your pastor; we are partners in the ministry of leading this church to reach those in our community and make a difference for Christ.

So… I thank my God every time I mention you in my prayers.

This week was a great week for Stonebridge UMC! On Sunday, we will be blessed by the look of the new sod that has been laid on the north and east side of the building. We will be blessed by the beauty of the new plants that have been planted in the expanded flower beds. Be sure to take a tour upstairs where we have created new space for the children and youth coming into our ministry. Your partnership in prayer, service, and financial support is making our ministry and mission possible.

Best of all, Thursday evening the Trustees approved and signed a contract to sell the two acres on Coronado for $1,350,000. There have been other negotiations with other potential buyers, as the Trustees and Leadership Board have worked hard to bring the church to this point. Finally, we have a contract. There is still much to be done before we get to closing. After closing costs, we will be able to make a huge “dent” in the $3,800,000 debt that remains on our facilities. As we move through the next few months, we will try to keep everyone up to date on our progress. Pray that this process moves smoothly and with no delays. We will be able to invest the funds we save on paying interest back into the ministries of Stonebridge UMC.

This Sunday, I continue our preaching focus on the Lord’s prayer. We will continue by looking at “Give us this day our daily bread”. This petition is an antidote for worry, it is an affirmation of God’s generous provision, and the perfection of God’s timing.

See you Sunday. Invite someone to worship.
